Whale tracking FAQ

What is a crypto whale?

A crypto whale is a wallet that holds or moves enough coins to stand out on-chain: exchanges, funds, early holders, miners and large traders. Because blockchains are public, their big transfers can be seen as they happen. CryptoWhaleLens watches for those transfers and labels known wallets (for example Binance, Coinbase or Kraken) so you can see who is moving money where.

How big does a transaction have to be to count as a whale move?

Here, a transaction counts as a whale move if it is worth at least $500,000 in US dollars at the current price. Smaller transfers never enter the feed. On the Live Feed tab you can raise the cutoff to $1M, $5M or $10M to see only the largest moves.

What do exchange inflows and outflows mean?

An inflow is a whale transfer into a known exchange wallet, and an outflow is a transfer out of one. The Exchange Flow tab adds these up per exchange and shows the net flow. Coins sent to an exchange are often (not always) on their way to being sold or traded. Coins taken off an exchange are often moved into self-custody or long-term storage. Transfers between two unlabeled wallets count as plain transfers, not flows.

Do whale moves predict the price?

Not reliably. A large inflow to an exchange can come before selling, and steady outflows can mean accumulation, but whales also move funds for custody, collateral, internal reshuffles or OTC deals that never touch the order book. Treat whale activity as one signal among many. Nothing on this site is financial advice. Do your own research before you trade.

Which blockchains and coins are tracked?

The tracker covers Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, Solana, BNB Chain and the XRP Ledger. Assets include BTC, ETH, USDT (on TRON and Ethereum), USDC, SOL, BNB, XRP, TRX and LINK. Real Bitcoin and Ethereum whale transfers load for free from public block data (mempool.space and Blockchair). To get live data for the other chains, add a Whale Alert API key in Settings. Without one, those chains run as a simulated demo feed, marked DEMO.

How do whale alerts work?

Enter your email in the "Get whale alerts by email" strip near the top of the page and press Subscribe. That adds you to the CryptoWhaleLens whale alerts email list. Signing up twice with the same address does not create a duplicate. To watch whale moves in real time, keep the Live Feed open. It checks for new whale transactions about once a minute.
